Cross Country Competes at NCAA East Regional

Men Finish 24th, While Women Take 26th

The Fordham cross country team were back in action on Friday, competing at the NCAA East Regional, held at Van Cortlandt Park.  Though the team was missing runners due to injury, the Rams still had a respectable showing in the large field, placing 24th in the men's 10K competition and 26th in the women's 6K run.
 
The men were the first race of the day, as the Syracuse Orange took first place in the men's competition with 57 points, placing six runners in the top 22 finishers.  Syracuse was followed by Columbia in second (78), Iona in third (81), and Providence in fourth (90).  Fordham was 24th overall out of the 37-team field with 638 points.
 
Harvard's Maksim Korolev was the individual winner of the 10K run with a time of 30:11.6.
 
For Fordham, Jonathan Annelli was the Rams' top finisher, placing 78th overall, clocking in at 31:55.6, followed by Mike Turi in 108th overall in 32:21.1 and Brian Walter in 143rd place in 32:57.3.  Patrick Burke was the next Ram across the line in 149th (33:01.1) with Adam Schwenzfeier (173rd – 33:24.1), Tim Kazanjian (183rd – 33:34.3), and Joe Hartnett (209th – 34:24.1) also competing.
 
In the women's race, Providence took the top spot with 44 points, placing five runners in the top 20 finishers.  Dartmouth was second overall with 84 points, followed by Syracuse in third (135), and Cornell in fourth (154).  Fordham was 26th out of 37 teams with 730 points.
 
Individually, Dartmouth's Abbey D'Agostino paced the field with a first place time of 19:48.3.
 
For the Rams, Anisa Arsenault was Fordham's first runner across the line in 94th place in 22:15.4, while Christina Vivinetto was 124th overall in 22:32.5.  Brianne Roche was the next Ram in, finishing in 168th (23:08.9), followed by Ariana Bottalico in 172nd (23:15.5), Melissa Higgins in 179th (23:26.5), and Kerry Sorenson in 195th (23:49.6).
 
The Fordham cross country teams wrap up their 2013 season next weekend, as the Rams host the ECAC/IC4A Championship at Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday, November 23rd.
