Princeton, N.J. - (November 15, 2013) - The Fordham swimming & diving teams made the short trek into Princeton, New Jersey, for the two-day Princeton Invitational. On day one, the Rams posted eight season-best marks over the 12 events held on Friday. There is no team scoring at the Princeton Invitational.
The night began with the 200 freestyle relay, where Fordham's "A"women's relay of Shannon Lulley, Megan Polaha, Kelly Carroll, and Chandler Lulley placed fifth overall in a season-best time of 1:39.95. The men's team also posted a season-best time in the event, as
Shintaro Noguchi,
Thomas Shetler,
Joe Mercurio, and Pat Militti clocked in at 1:25.85, good for third place.
Next up was the 500-yard freestyle event, where three Rams finished in the top ten in the women's competition. Kalent Laurent was the top finisher in 5:03.50, good for fourth place, while Megan Zarriello was fifth in 5:03.67.
Kara Field rounded out the top ten finishers, taking 10
th overall in 5:07.61. In the men's event,
Steve Sholdra placed second overall in a season-best time of 4:37.12.
The next event was the 200-yard individual medley, where once again three Rams were in the top ten on the women's side. Polaha was third overall in a season-best time of 2:06.84, followed by Carroll in fifth (2:07.88) and Theresa Goehring in ninth (2:10.29). On the men's side, Fordham's top two finishers were Zach Jacobsen in 16
th (2:00.02) and
Michael Grimmett-Norris in 17
th (2:00.49).
The last individual swimming event was the 50-yard freestyle, which saw Megan Gray as the lone top ten on the women's side, clocking a season-best time of 24.52 seconds. Noguchi and Shetler both cracked the top ten in the men's event with Noguchi finishing fourth in a season-best time of 21.30 seconds and Shetler tying for eighth in 21.61 seconds.
The final relay event was the 400-yard medley relay. Fordham's top women's squad (Spencer Chappell, Carroll, Polaha, C. Lulley) took third in 3:58.12, while the top men's team (Grimmett-Norris, Sholdra, Noguchi, Militti) was sixth in 3:33.10.
In diving, Hailey Cox posted her best score on the three-meter board with a mark of 206.80, while
Hanul Moon did the same on the one-meter board, as he placed fourth with a score of 230.45.
Competition will conclude on Saturday.
