It may have been a cloudy afternoon, but that did not stop the eighth annual Fordham Baseball Alumni game at Houlihan Park, which saw a record turnout with close to 50 former players and coaches from over six decades return to Rose Hill.
Â
The alumni game was highlighted with appearances by four players from the 1960's, Fordham Hall of Famers Pete Harnisch, Bob Cole, and Dan Gallagher, a number of former All-Conference players, and some great webgems in the field.
Â
The game began with a bang in the first inning, as the current Rams tallied five runs in the first inning, with
David Judisky and
Brendan Maghini each having an extra-base hit. The highlight of the inning however belonged to alum Max Krakowiak, a former starting pitcher for the Rams, who got the start in left field. Krakowiak made a long running catch, crashed headfirst into the wall, and held onto the ball for the final out of the inning.
Â
The alumni would flash some more leather later in the game, as first-time attendee Anthony Vega made an acrobatic catch behind home plate for an out in the third inning, while Rich Goulian made a diving stop at shortstop with a quick throw to second for a force out in the fourth.
Â
The current Rams though held their own against the alumni, netting a 12-0 win, which was capped by a three-run home run by Jason Lundy. The current Fordham pitchers held the alumni to just two hits in the game, one by Vega and the other from Danny Leach.
