Fordham’s Beau Elson Ties His Career-High with Eight Strikeouts

Dayton, Ohio – (April 3, 2026) – Dayton received home runs from Colin Lynch and Grayson Carpenter, while Sawyer Jensen struck out eight over six innings, as the Flyers edged the Fordham Rams, 5-3, at Woerner Field on Friday to open a three-game Atlantic 10 series.
 
With the loss, Fordham is now 13-15 overall, 5-5 in the Atlantic 10, while Dayton moved to 16-12 on the year, 4-6 in the league.
 
THE GAME
  • Dayton scored the opening run in the bottom of the third inning on a sacrifice bunt for a 1-0 lead.
  • The Rams answered with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning, as Tommy Markey connected on a two-run single, scoring Chase Hanawalt and Mason Dean.
  • The Flyers then tied the game at two in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run by Colin Lynch, his eighth of the season.
  • Dayton then regained the lead on a two-run home run by Grayson Carpenter, his first of the year, making it a 4-2 game in the fifth inning.
  • The Flyers tacked on another run in the sixth inning for a 5-2 edge, courtesy of a Fordham error.
  • Fordham attempted a ninth inning rally, scoring a run on an RBI-single by Tommy McAndrews and getting the tying run on base, but were unable to get plate any more runs for a 5-3 loss.
 
GAME NOTES
  • Beau Elson (3-3) took the loss, allowing three earned runs, while tying his career-high with eight strikeouts over 5.2 innings pitched.
  • Declan Cawley was strong out of the bullpen, allowing only one hit with four strikeouts over the final 2.1 innings.
  • Fordham left 11 runners on base in the game.
  • Offensively, Anthony Grabau finished 2-for-5 for Fordham, while Markey was 1-for-4 with two RBI.
