Princeton, N.J. - (May 12, 2012) - Fighting through injuries and illness, the Fordham track & field squad continued its stay at the 2012 ECAC/IC4A Championships, held in Princeton, New Jersey. The Rams had eight entries on the day, and saw two school records fall, as well as having one qualifier for Sunday's finals
Fordham opened with senior Kevin Fitzgerald in the 1,500 meters, where he struggled through the race due to illness, but still found his way to place 14th overall in 3:51.01.
Then, in the men's 400 meters, Sean Atkinson took to the track, but also had some hard luck, as he hit a hurdle and injured himself, as he clocked in at 57.25 seconds, placing 29th. The injury to Atkinson, as well as one to Sean Collins last weekend, saw the Rams pull out of the 4x400 relay.
The bright spot however was the men's 4x800 relay, which qualified for Sunday's final, as John Cosgrove, Daniel Green, Michael Rossi, and Brian Walter, placed third overall in 7:34.81.
In the women's competition, Titi Fagade began things in the 400 meter dash as she took 22nd overall, breaking her own school record in 55.56 seconds. Fagade came back later in the day to join Averie Sheppard, Elisabeth Warren, and Kelly Connolly in the 4x400 relay, where the group was 15th in 3:47.42
Kristen Stuart followed with a similar performance to Fagade's in the women's 400 meter hurdles, as she also broke her own school record, as she placed 11th in 1:01.09.
Blair Hassell was Fordham's final competitor on day two, as she was 26th in the javelin throw with a mark of 119' 2".
The 2012 ECAC/IC4A Championship will conclude on Sunday, beginning at 10:00 AM. Fordham has entries in two events other than the men's 4x800 relay final, as Courtnay Newman and David Fajoyomi will compete in the women's and men's high jump respectively.
