Buffalo, N.Y. - (Feb. 26, 2011) - The 2011 Atlantic 10 Championships have come to a close at the Flickinger Center in Buffalo, New York, as the Massachusetts men have once again captured Atlantic 10 crown with a score of 764.5 points. The Fordham men finished sixth overall with 387 points.
After Massachusetts, St. Bonaventure placed second with 621 points, followed by La Salle (452), George Washington (423.5), Xavier (418), Fordham (387), and Saint Louis (279).
The final session began with the 1650 freestyle, where Fordham's Michael Grimmett-Norris placed 16th overall in 16:32.5.
Then came the 200 backstroke, where Robert Gitman qualified for the "A" final with Thomas Yi in the "B" final. Gitman would take fifth overall in 1:51.06, whil Yi was 14th in 1:53.23.
The Rams then had two "A" finalists in the 100 freestyle. Billy Colton took home sixth in a time of 45.83 seconds, while Devon Morris was eighth in 46.07 seconds.The Rams biggest scoring event of the day was the 200 breaststroke, where Matthew Grabiak earned a second place finish in a school record time of 2:03.12. He broke Atsushi Ohtaka's record of 2:03.15, set in 1992. On top of Grabiak, Ben Dwyer (2:06.07) and Sean McManus (2:07.58) scored seventh and eighth respectively in the "A" final, while Giuseppe Saffos was 12th overall in a time of 2:07.76.
The next event was the 200 butterfly, where Chris Schneck was the lone scorer, placing 14th overall in 1:56.45.
The final event of the Championship was the men's 400 freestyle relay, where Shintaro Noguchi, Morris, Nick Belfanti, and Colton placed third in a time of 3:02.70.
