Buffalo, N.Y. - (Feb. 24, 2011) - Day two of the 2011 Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championships is in the books at the Flickinger Center in Buffalo, New York. The Fordham men's team, led by a second place finish in the 200 freestyle relay, remain sixth in the overall standings after seven events.
Massachusetts is still in first place with 280 points, followed by St. Bonaventure with 254. George Washington is currently in third with 172, followed by La Salle (157), Xavier (143), Fordham (128), and Saint Louis (103).
The competition began with the 500 yard freestyle event, where freshman Nick Belfanti made the "B" final, placing 12th overall in a season-best time of 4:40 04.
The next men's event was the 200 yard individual medley, which saw senior Robert Gitman qualify for the "B" final. He placed 14th overall in 1:55.62.
The competition continued with the 50 yard freestyle, where Fordham had a trio of swimmer make the finals. In the "A" final, Billy Colton and Devon Morris placed fourth and seventh overall respectively, posting season-best times of 20.85 and 21.05 seconds, while the "B" final saw freshman Shintaro Noguchi place 12th overall in 21.09 seconds, his best time of the year.
The final men's event of day two was the 200 freestyle relay, where the Rams' team of Noguchi, Morris, Danny Thrall, and Colton, earned a second place finish in a season-best time of 1:22.53. Competition at the Championship will continue on Friday morning with trials at 10:30 a.m. and finals at 6:30 p.m.
