Fairfield, Conn. - (Sept. 26, 2009) - For the second straight week, the Fordham men's cross country team proved to be the team to beat as they followed up their team win at the NYIT Running of the Bears with a first place finish at the 2008 Father Leeber S.J. Invitational. The women's cross country finished the meet in third place.
Scranton's Chris Wasnetsky won the individual title on the men's side with a time of 25:19 with Fordham sophomore Kevin Fitzgerald taking the second spot with a time of 25:33 followed steps behind by graduate student Clifton Hilario with his time of 25:34 giving him fourth place.
The rest of the Rams that scored in the meet all finished in the top 20 as Paul Szczepaniak took sixth (25:48), Julian Saad finished 12th (25:56) while Sam Stuart clocked in at 26:17 for 19th.
Top-50 finishers for the Rams include Matt Collins (24th -26:31), Rich Grandelli (25th - 26:34), Ryan Campi (34th - 26:54), John Korevec (36th - 26:55), Devin Kelly (41st - 27:06), Erik Lawrence (42nd - 27:09), Patrick McDonough (45th - 27:12), Nick Synan (46th - 27:13) and Andrew Roddin (48th - 27:20).
The women's team also had a two-three finish with Kerri Gallagher's 19:00 time finished second only to Sacred Heart junior Kimberly DeLoreeto as her 18:31 mark was not only good enough to win the individual title but it helped the Pioneers to finish first in the meet. Fairfield finished second with the Rams just a few points behind in third.
Following close at Gallagher's heels was teammate Brigid Moriarty with her time of 19:05 giving her third place. Sheena Parand had herself a top-10 finish with a time of 19:51, good for ninth place.
Also scoring for the Rams was 20th-place finisher Nako Nakatsuka followed by Mairin O'Connor in 21st with respective times of 20:15 and 20:20.
Kim Naples (27th - 20:33), Ashley Davis (38th - 20:45) and Christina Machado (47th - 21:06) also finished in the top 50.
Next up for the Rams is the Metropolitan Championships held at Van Cortlandt Park on Friday, October 9 at 2:00 PM.
