Bronx, N.Y. - (Sept. 16, 2009) - The Fordham men's tennis team opened their fall season on Wednesday afternoon with a 7-0 loss to Hofstra University at Fordham's Hawthorn/Rooney Tennis Courts.
The match started with Hofstra taking the doubles point, as the Pride won all three matches, though Fordham played tough at first doubles as Dallas Harting and Austin Shoup fell by an 8-6 score to Matt Wacks and Chris Damion.
In singles play, the Pride again got the better of the Rams, winning all six singles matches.
Fordham's Ken Fukumoto and Brandon Abbatiello tried to spoil the sweep, but came up just short. Fukumoto battled back from a set down at fifth singles to force a super-tiebreaker, but succumb to Jason Sinkoff, 6-3, 5-7, and 11-9.
Abbatiello just missed winning the opening set of his third singles match as Chris Damion won the tiebreaker, 11-9, to take the opening set, 7-6, and later won the second set, 6-3.
The Fordham men's tennis team will next be in action on Wednesday, September 23rd, as they host NJIT at the Hawthorn/Rooney Tennis Courts, beginning at 3:00 PM.
