Boston, Mass. - (Nov. 14, 2009) - The Fordham women's and men's cross country team made the trek up to a rainy Boston for the NCAA District Regional on Saturday, as both teams placed 22nd overall out of 35 and 36 teams respectively.
In the men's competition, Fordham placed 22nd out of 36 teams with a score of 608, which was just two points shy of Maine (606) and 14 short of Vermont (594) to place in the top 20 teams.
The Rams had only six runners competing, led by sophomore Kevin Fitzgerald, who finished 65th overall in 33:10 over the 10K course. Clifton Hilario was the next Ram across the finish line in 85th place in 33:35, followed by John Korevec (141st - 34:43), Rich Grandelli (146th - 34:48), Patrick McDonough (173rd - 35:15), and Julian Saad (209th - 36:25). In all, there were a total of 244 runners in the competition.
In the women's competition, Fordham was also 22nd. This time, it was out of 35 teams. Fordham ended the meet with 636 points.
Finishing with one of the Rams' top performances in recent history,
Brigid Moriarty took 41st overall in the meet in a time of 23:25 over the 6K course.
Kerri Gallagher then crossed the line in 75th place in 24:04, followed by
Mairin O'Connor (168th - 25:32),
Kim Naples (175th - 25:39),
Sheena Parand (177th - 25:44),
Nako Nakatsuka (226th - 27:21), and
Ashley Davis (233rd - 28:15). In all, there were a total of 243 runners in the competition.
The Fordham cross country teams will conclude their 2009 season, next Saturday, November 21st, as they host the ECAC/IC4A Championships at Van Cortlandt Park.
