Princeton, N.J. - (Nov. 14, 2009) - The Fordham University men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed in the first day of competition at the Princeton "Big Al" Open, turning in season-bests in all nine races completed on the night.
Leading the way for the women was Courtney Collyer, who took third in the 200 IM in 2:07.02, and Brienne Ryan, who placed third in the 50 free in 24.20, and, both season-best times for the Rams. Other competitors in the 200 IM for the rams included Nicole Marshall, who was eighth (2:10.04), Tressa Dunn, who took 11th (2:11.15) and Kim Bouton, who finished 16th (2:13.98). Other finishers for Fordham in the 50 free included Kelly Bunster, who took fifth (24.38), Dunn, who took eighth (24.74) and Kellie Lyver, who placed ninth (24.79).
In the women's 500 free, Caitlin Napoli was the top Fordham finisher, placing eighth in a season-best time of 5:02.79 while Megan McGorry took tenth (5:03.90), Alexandra Alessi was 19th (5:12.83) and Emily Wojdyla took 28th (5:21.94).
In women's relays, the 200 freestyle relay "A" team of Bunster, Ryan, Caitlin Napoli and Dunn placed second in a season-best time of 1:36.39 while the "B" team of Lara Moseley, Christina Cosentino, Samantha Heyman and Kellie Lyver placed fifth in a time of 1:40.62.
The women's 400 medley relay "A" team of Ryan, Nicole Marshall, Bunster and Dunn finished second in a season-best time of 3:51.01 while the "B" team of Cosentino, Collyer, Napoli and Lyver placed fifth (4:00.46).
Ryan Coombs was the top Fordham finisher in the 50 free, placing eighth in a time of 21.69 while his brother, Justin Coombs, was tenth (21.75). Also racing in the 50 free for the Rams were Billy Colton, who took 15th (22.17) and Chris Schneck, who was 20th (22.43).
In the men's 200 IM Colton was the first Fordham finisher, placing ninth in a season-best time of 2:00.02. Other Rams in the race included Robert Gitman, who took 15th (2:01.75), Sean McManus, who was 21st (2:03.22) and Andrew Buemi, who placed 22nd (2:03.38).
In the men's 500 free, Lucien Monson was the top Fordham performer, placing tenth in a season-best time of 4:50.52, while Andrew Buemi was 13th (4:54.21) and Patrick Nowak placed 17th (4:57.99).
In men's relays, the 200 freestyle "A" team of Ryan Coombs, Colton, Rami Fetyani and Justin Coombs took second in a season-best time of 1:25.39, with Ryan Coombs' first leg of 21.66 also being a team best in the 50 free this year. The Fordham "C" team of Jason Dobbs, Dan Swenson, Alex Harkin and Danny Thrall placed sixth in 1:31.34.
The Rams will close out competition at Princeton on Saturday beginning at 9:00 AM.
