Swimming & Diving Sweeps Meet on Senior Night

Bronx, N.Y. - (Feb. 6, 2008) - It was Senior Night for eight Fordham swimming & diving seniors, and they got sent off in fine fashion as Fordham swept their meet from St. Francis (NY) College. The Fordham men won 175-77 to improve to 5-4 overall, while the Fordham women won 152-85, improving to 9-1 on the season.

Prior to the meet, seniors Tara McWilliams, Jennifer Larkin, Marisa Colangelo, Amanda Irving, Kenny Gucker, Kyle Silbernagel, Joseph Murtha, and Donato Callara were honored for numerous accomplishments and their hard work for the program.

Callara had the biggest highlight of the night, as he broke his own three-meter diving record with a score of 345.45. His previous record was 343.95 set in 2005.

Irving and Colangelo also had senior night wins, as Irving won the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.47, while Colangelo won both diving events with scores of 253.73 (1M) and 261.67 (3M).

Fordham won most of the events on the night, led by Caitlin Napoli, Ryan Coombs, and Robert Gitman, who each won two events. Napoli won the 100 backstroke in 1:00.04 and the 200 backstroke in 2:12.26, while Coombs took the 100 and 200 butterfly in 52.17 and 1:56.79, respectively. Gitman took first in the 100 backstroke (54.52) and the 500 freestyle (4:55.78).

Also taking home event wins were Brendan O'Morchoe in the 1000 freestyle (10:47.71), Nicole Marshall in the 200 freestyle (1:56.87), Eric Prendergast in the 200 freestyle (1:47.94), Sean Terry in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.77), Katelynn Gray in the 200 butterfly (2:10.34), Justin Coombs in the 50 freestyle (21.70), Benjamin Otto in the one-meter dive (287.63), Christina Cosentino in the 100 freestyle (55.20), Richard Butler in the 100 freestyle (50.37), Brad Heyman in the 200 back (2:07.27), Kim Bouton in the 200 breaststroke (2:31.18), Giuseppe Saffos in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.08), Natazia Fistrovic in the 500 freestyle (5:18.50), Amanda Ciccone in the 100 butterfly (59.72), Tressa Dunn in the 200 IM (2:13.54), and Tim Gusick in the 200 IM (2:05.24).

The Fordham swimming and diving teams will next be in action on February 20-23, when they compete at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship, held in Buffalo, N.Y.
