Buffalo, N.Y. - (Feb. 21, 2008) - The Fordham University men's and women's swimming teams continued competition at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championships tonight at the Flickinger Center with the women sitting in fifth place and the men in sixth after two days of competition.
Richmond sits atop the women's standings with a score of 247. Xavier sits in second place with 184 points, 63 behind the Spiders. Duquesne is in third place (172), followed by Massachusetts in fourth (156), Fordham in fifth (155), St. Bonaventure in sixth (119), Rhode Island in seventh (109), La Salle in eighth (101), George Washington in ninth (96) and Saint Louis in tenth (82).
In the men's team competition, Massachusetts sits on top with a total of 280 points, 76 ahead of second place St. Bonaventure. The Bonnies have 204 points, followed by Duquesne (166), Xavier (144), La Salle (141), Fordham (136), Rhode Island (135), Saint Louis (91), and George Washington (85).
After seeing three school records fall on day one, the Rams added another one on day two as Nicole Marshall took fourth in the 200 IM in a time of 2:05.84, breaking the former school record of 2:07.46 set by Erika Newell in 2004.
Also turning in a top four performance for the women on day two was Caitlin Napoli, who took third in 500 free in a time of 4:59.63.
Also scoring for the women on day two were Marisa Colangelo, who was fifth on one meter board (375.25); Tressa Dunn, who placed ninth in the 50 free (24.08); Amanda Irving, who was 11th in the 500 free (5:05.41); Ashley Ukleja, who placed 12th in the 500 free (5:05.99); Marina Montoya, who finished 14th in the 200 IM (2:10.43) and Tara McWilliams, who took 15th in the 500 free (5:13.53).
In the lone relay of the night, 200 free relay of Dunn, Christina Cosentino, Marshall and Amanda Ciccone placed fifth fifth in a time of 1:36.92.
On the men's side,
Ryan Coombs and
Lucien Monson took ninth and tenth, respectively, in the 500 free with Coobs turning in a time of 4:37.07 and Monson finishing right behind him in a time of 4:38.53.
Also scoring for the men on day two were
Eric Prendergast, who was 11th in the 200 IM (1:56.29);
Kyle Silbernagel, who placed 13th in the 200 IM (1:57.17) and
Robert Gitman, who was 14th in the 200 IM (1:57.23).
In the lone men's relay on the night, the 200 free relay of Prendergast, William Colton,
Richard Butler and Silbernagel took eighth in 1:26.38.
