Swimming Competes at Rutgers Super Splash

Piscataway, N.J. - (Nov. 16, 2008) - The Fordham University men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed this weekend at the 2008 Rutgers Super Splash in the Sonny Werblin Recreation center. There was no team scoring.

The Rams had one event winner on the weekend with Billy Colton taking the 100 back in a time of 51.64 while also placing tenth in the 200 IM (1:58.89).

Other men who finished in the top ten include Ryan Coombs, who won the B-Final, taking sixth overall, in the 500 free (4:46.63) and placed sixth in the 200 free (1:44.99); Justin Coombs, who was sixth in the 500 free (4:46.76), seventh in the 50 free (21.76) and eighth in the 200 free (1:45.35); Benjamin Otto, who took third on the one meter board (250.70); Robert Gitman, who placed sixth in the 100 back (54.39); Sean Terry, who took sixth in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.71); Anthony Giovannone, who was seventh on one meter board (198.10); Matthew Grabiak, who finished eighth in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.58); Lucien Monson, who placed ninth in the 500 free (4:54.10); Chris Schneck, who was ninth in the 100 butterfly (55.49); Andrew Buemi, who finished tenth in the 500 free (4:54.53); Dan Swensen, who was tenth in the 100 back (57.21) and Giuseppe Saffos, who placed tenth in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.72).

In men's relays, 400 medley relay of Colton, Terry, Ryan Coombs and Justin Coombs was second (3:33.54) while the B Team of Gitman, Grabiak, Castaldo and Eric Prendergast finished third (3:39.49). The Fordham 200 free relay of Ryan Coombs, Colton, Prendergast and Justin Coombs placed third (1:26.15) while the B Team of Patrick Mulligan, Schneck, Gitman and Rami Fetyani took fourth (1:28.94).

On the women's side, Caitlin Napoli and Nicole Marshall each took a second and a third place with Napoli placing second in the 200 free (1:53.82)and third in the 500 free (5:03.41) and Marshall finishing second in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.95) and third in the 200 IM (2:07.82).

Also placing in the top ten for the women were Tressa Dunn, who was third in 50 free (24.05), won the B-Final (placing sixth overall) in the 200 free (1:5.24) and was seventh in the 200 IM (2:08.79); Courtney Collyer, who placed second in the 400 IM and sixth in the 200 IM (2:08.47); Christina Cosentino, who finished third in the 100 back (58.26); Natazia Fistrovic, who took third in the 400 IM (4:41.90); Kristin Colton, who placed fourth in the 100 back (59.72); Kelly Bunster, who won the B-Final (placing sixth overall) in the 50 free (24.52); Marina Montoya, who won the B-Final (taking sixth overall) in the 400 IM (4:42.67); Alexandria Ukleja, who placed sixth in the 400 IM (4:45.30); Katelynn Gray, who finished seventh in the 100 butterfly (1:00.28); Emily Wojdyla, who was seventh in the 200 free (1:58.60) and eighth in the 500 free (5:08.11); Elena Muñoz, who took eighth in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.52); Elizabeth Dorger, who was eighth on both one (229.20) and three meter (216.55) boards; Alexandra Alessi, who finished ninth in the 200 free (1:59.28); Andrea Krok, who placed ninth on both the one (223.65) and three meter (210.60) boards and Danielle Forrest, who placed tenth in the 200 free (2:00.49).

In women's relays, the Fordham 800 free relay team of Bunster, Dunn, Marshall and Napoli placed second (7:45.41) while the B Team of Collyer, Colton, Forrest and Alessi finished fourth (7:58.12). In the 400 medley relay, the A Team of Cosentino, Marshall, Bunster and Dunn placed second while the B Team of Colton, Collyer, Napoli and Rebekah Weiner was seventh (4:05.70). In the 200 medley relay, the team of Cosentino, Marshall, Bunster and Dunn took second (1:49.39) while the B Team of Colton, Munoz, Napoli and Weiner was fourth (1:53.12). In the 200 free relay squad of Bunster, Cosentino, Napoli and Dunn placed third (1:38.84) while the B Team of Alessi, Colton, Weiner and Collyer took seventh (1:41.99).

The men's and women's swimming squads will next be in action on Saturday, November 22nd, as they host Rhode Island and Duquesne in a tri-met in the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatics Center starting at 12:30 p.m.
