Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - The Fordham University women's tennis squad played a pair of matches at Marist College on Saturday, defeating the host school, 5-2, and falling to the University at Albany, 6-1. With the split, the Rams go to 1-3 on the year.
Fordham opened the Marist match taking the doubles point, winning two of the three doubles matches. Dominique Liguori and Martina Featherston teamed up to win at first doubles over Marist's Erin McCarthy and Mirelva Colon, 8-1, while Jane Carroll and Kathryn Silva took third doubles from Kayla O'Donovan and Joanna Macalus, 8-1.
The Rams then won the match by taking four of the six singles matches. Liguori won at first singles over McCarthy in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-2, while Featherston defeated Colon in straight sets at second singles, 6-4 and 6-3. Bethany Boyle won at fourth singles for Fordham, defeating Retta Byron, 7-5 and 6-3, while Silva defeated Joanna Macaluso at sixth singles, 6-0 and 6-1.
In the Albany match, the Rams dropped the doubles point to the Great Danes, losing two of the three doubles matches. Liguori and Featherston were the lone doubles winners for Fordham, defeating Charlotte Talter and Holly Smith, 8-2.
In singles play, Liguori picked up Fordham's point with a 6-0, 6-1 first singles win over Kim Weltman.
The Rams will next be in action on Saturday, October 11th, as they travel to Philadelphia to face Saint Joseph's at 12:00 p.m.
