Bronx, N.Y. - (Sept. 15, 2007) - The Saint Joseph's men and Columbia women took the top prize at the Ram Cross Country Invitational this afternoon at Van Cortlandt Park. Host Fordham took third on the men's side and fourth in the women's competition.
On the men's side, Saint Joseph's won the nine team race with 23 points, followed by Columbia (41), Fordham (74), and Charleston (114). Columbia's Ryan Hays took the individual title with a time of 26:10.6 over the five-mile course.
Fordham was led by senior Matt Flynn, who placed ninth in 27:16, and sophomore Tim Hartnett, who placed 13th in 27:29. Senior Matt Lowenthal was right behind Hartnett in 14th place (27:30), followed by freshman Tim Burke (18th - 27:53), junior Justin Kopunek (20th - 28:02), and freshman Casey Barrett (22nd - 28:07).
On the women's side, Columbia won the team title with a score of 34 points, followed by Charleston (52), Saint Joseph's (83), Fordham (85), and Manhattan (90). Charleston's Becky Stewart won the individual title, taking first in 19:10 over the 5K course.
For Fordham, junior Jacqueline Prevete placed fifth overall in 19:28, while senior Melissa Salerno was 13th in 19:49. Freshman Kerri Gallagher was 18th overall (20:00), followed by junior Brigid Moriarty (24th - 20:13), sophomore Emily Kolodgy (31st - 20:34), and sophomore Kristin Pezzuti (36th - 20:54).
The Fordham cross country teams will next be in action on Saturday, September 22nd, as they compete at the Iona Meet of Champions, held at Van Cortlandt Park.
