Bronx, N.Y. - (Sept. 10, 2007) - In cross country action, the Princeton women and Penn men each placed first to capture the 2007 Fordham Cross Country Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park.
Princeton won the women's competition with a score of 20 points, as they placed second through seventh overall. DePaul's Claire Duck won the 5K race in a time of 18:38.52. Princeton was followed by Penn (85), DePaul (118), and Northwestern (121).
Host Fordham placed seventh overall as a team out of 25 schools, who had participants. Fordham's Jacqueline Prevete was the team's top finisher, placing 24th overall in 19:46, followed by Melissa Salerno (44th - 20:38), Kerri Gallagher (51st - 20:41), Emily Kolodgy (60th - 20:53), and Brigid Moriarty (65th - 21:05).
Penn won the men's competition with a score of 42 points, closely followed by Princeton (50), and Navy (54). DePaul (160) and Stone Hill (162) were a distant fourth and fifth, respectively. New York Tech's Kigen Evans was the individual winner in a time of 26:03.74 over the five-mile course.
Host Fordham finished 10th out of 24 schools participating. Leading the way, Fordham sophomore Tim Hartnett placed 74th overall in a time of 28:59, followed by freshmen Tim Hutchinson (83rd - 29:04), Tim Burke (87th - 29:07), Thomas Kelly (89th - 29:09), and Casey Barrett (101st - 29:29).
