New Haven, Conn. - (Dec. 1, 2007) - The Fordham swimming team had their final competition prior to Christmas Break today, as they competed at the Nutmeg Invitational, hosted by Yale University.
The Rams had a number of top ten finishers in today's event, led by Ryan Coombs, who took first in the 50 freestyle (22.06) and 100 butterfly (52.34). He also placed sixth in the 200 individual medley (2:01.25).
Coombs was also pivotal in the relays, as he joined with Billy Colton, Sean Terry, and Justin Coombs to win the 400 medley relay in 3:32.83, and place second in the 200 medley relay (1:37.42). He also joined J. Coombs, Robert Gitman, and Brian Jucas, to place second in the 800 freestyle relay (7:04.46).
Justin Coombs also had a solid day, placing third in the 500 freestyle (4:47.09), fifth in the 50 freestyle (22.36), and seventh in the 200 freestyle (1:46.83). Other top performances came from Sean Terry in the 100 breaststroke (2nd - 59.69), Robert Gitman in the 100 backstroke (6th - 54.95), Eric Prendergast in the 400 individual medley (7th - 4:19.85), and Lucien Monson in the 500 freestyle (9th - 4:55.82).
On the women's side, the relay teams took the top prizes, as the 400 medley and 800 freestyle relay teams both took first. Christina Cosentino, Nicole Marshall, Caitlin Napoli, and Amanda Ciccone won the 400 medley relay in 3:56.51, while also grabbing second in the 200 medley relay (1:50.27). Ciccone, Amanda Irving, Tressa Dunn and Napoli then combined for a win in the 800 freestyle relay in 7:50.14.
Individually, Nicole Marshall was second in the 400 individual medley (4:34.31), while Caitlin Napoli grabbed third in the 200 individual medley (2:11.00) and the 100 backstroke (1:00.29), and ninth in the 50 freestyle (25.08).
Amanda Irving placed seventh in the 200 freestyle (1:57.91) and eighth in the 500 freestyle (5:12.88), while Tressa Dunn was seventh in the 100 backstroke (1:02.24) and eighth in 50 freestyle (25.05). Amanda Ciccone had a pair of top tens in the 200 individual medley (4th - 2:11.12) and 100 butterfly (7th - 1:00.30).
Other top tens included Anne Conroy in the 500 freestyle (6th - 5:11.33), Kim Bouton in the 200 individual medley (8th - 2:15.44), and Katelynn Gray in the 100 butterfly (6th -1:00.29).
The Fordham swimming team's next competition will be on January 19th, when they visit La Salle University at noon.
