Bronx, N.Y. - (Nov. 17, 2007) - The Fordham University men's and women's cross country squads competed at the ECAC/IC4A Championship held at Van Cortlandt Park with the men placing seventh of 25 teams in the IC4A University race and the women taking tenth of 25 team in the ECAC University race.
New Hampshire took the IC4A University team championship, with a team score of 62, followed by Army (67), Binghamton (151) and Bucknell (178). Fordham placed seventh with a team total of 231.
New Hampshire also won the ECAC University title with a team score of 68, followed by Colgate (96), Army (153) and Towson (158). The Rams placed tenth with a team score of 301.
Leading the men was senior Matt Lowenthal, who placed seventh overall, covering the 5-mile course in a time of 26:14. Tom Finnerty was the second Fordham finisher, taking 31st in a time of 26:55.
Other men who scored for the Rams included Matt Flynn, who placed 54th (27:15), Patrick McDonough, who was 67th (27:32), Brian Horowitz, who took 94th (28:02) Casey Barrett, who placed 97th (28:06) and Justin Kopunek, who was 106th (28:15).
Also competing for the men were John Korevec (132nd - 28:45) and Tom Papain (152nd - 29:13).
In the men's coaches race, Andrew Spanos took 29th (28:55), Thomas Kelly was 36th (29:15), James Shields placed 38th (29:21), Brendan Banks finished 39th (29:24), Michael Walsh placed 49th (3:17) and Chris Granucci was 56th (31:11).
On the women's side, Brigid Moriarty was the top Fordham finisher, running the 5K course in a time of 18:59. Melissa Salerno was the second Fordham woman to cross the finish line, placing 29th in a time of 19:26.
Also scoring for the women were Kristin Pezzuti, who was 70th (20:07), Jacqueline Prevete, who placed 83rd (20:27), Bridget Carroll, who took 135th (21:19).
Other women who competed in the race for the Rams were Jana Trenk (149th - 21:30), Vanessa Spoto (152nd - 21:37), Emily Kolodgy (170th - 22:06), Daniela Hess (199th - 23:30) and Deirdre McPhillips (200th - 23:41).
