Bronx, N.Y. - (Oct. 6, 2007) - The Fordham University men's and women's cross country squads competed at the 2007 Metropolitan Championships at Van Cortland Park on Friday afternoon with the Fordham women taking third and the men seventh out of 13 teams.
Columbia won the women's team title with a score of 46, followed by Iona College with 54 points and Fordham with 117, four points in front of fourth place Rutgers.
For the men, New York University had the top three finishers to take the team championship with a score of 27, followed by Columbia (62), Southern Connecticut (106) and Rutgers (111). The Rams placed seventh with a score of 179.
Melissa Salerno paced the Fordham women with a tenth place overall finish, covering the 5K course in a time of 19:31, while Brigid Moriarty placed 16th in a time of 19:46. Also scoring for the Rams were Jacqueline Prevete, who placed 33rd (20:29), Kerri Gallagher, who took 35th (20:42), and Emily Kolodgy, who finished 40th (20:53).
Also running for the women were Catalina Hallock (46th - 21:12), Kristin Pezzuti (49th - 21:15), Susan Hansen (53rd - 21:22), Jena Trenk (58th - 21:36), Kelsey Komich (66th - 21:58), Bridget Carroll (71st - 22:04), Vanessa Spoto (87th - 23:03), Kathleen Reilly (92nd - 23:30), Daniela Hess (110th - 24:58), Dana Mitchell (113th - 25:33) and Madelyn Weingart (119th - 27:53).
Matt Lowenthal was the top men's finisher for Fordham, completing the 8K race in a time of 27:17.2. Tim Hartnett was the second Ram to cross the finish line, placing 26th with a 27:43.1 clocking. Other scorers for the Rams were Tom Papain, John Korevec and James Shields, who placed 102nd through 104th, respectively in times of 30:26.8, 30:33.3 and 30:40.4.
Also competing for the Rams were Paul Szczepaniak (106th - 30:53.6), Erik Lawrence (112th - 31:23.2), Thomas Kelly (32:27.1) and Chris Granucci (128th - 33:14.2).
The Fordham cross country teams will next be in action on October 14th as they compete at the St. John's Fall Festival in Fresh Meadows Park at 11:00 AM.
