Piscataway, N.J. (Oct. 20, 2007) - The Fordham swimming & diving teams completed their first meet of the season this afternoon at the Sonny Werblin Invitational, hosted by Rutgers University. Much like day one, Fordham had a number of excellent performances.
On the women's side, Fordham placed third and fourth in the 100 freestyle, as
Amanda Ciccone swam 53.72 seconds, while
Tressa Dunn finished in 54.51 seconds.
In the 200 freestyle, Fordham placed three in the top six, led by
Caitlin Napoli, who was second in 1:53.79. Ciccone finished fifth in 1:57.54, while
Amanda Irving was sixth (1:58.04).
In the 100 backstroke, Napoli again led the way, taking fourth in 59.24 seconds, while
Christina Cosentino (59.71) and
Kristin Colton (1:01.13) were seventh and eighth, respectively.
Cosentino and Colton were also the top finishers in the 200 backstroke, as Cosentino was fourth in 2:11.14, while Colton was sixth in 2:12.09.
In the breaststroke events,
Nicole Marshall placed second in both the 100 and 200 events in 1:06.82 and 2:24.87, respectively. Marshall also took third in the 400 IM today in 4:37.73.
In the butterfly events,
Katelynn Gray was Fordham's top finisher in the 100, placing 12th in 1:01.35, while Napoli won the 200 event in 2:06.48.
In diving,
Marisa Colangelo was third in the one meter event with a score of 206.60.
In relay action, the Fordham women were second in the 400 freestyle relay (3:36.50) and in the 200 medley relay (1:50.25).
On the men's side, the Coombs brothers got the action rolling by placing first and second in the 100 freestyle. Justin won the event in 48.59 seconds, while Ryan was right behind him in a time of 48.78 seconds. In the 200 freestyle, the brothers flipped, as Ryan was the top finisher, placing third in 1:44.83, while Justin was fourth in 1:46.83.
In the 1650 freestyle, Ryan Coombs placed second in 16:31.93, followed by Lucien Monson in third (16:47.76), and Justin Coombs in fourth (16:49.27).
In the backstroke events, Robert Gitman was the top finisher in both, taking fourth in the 100 (54.81) and second in the 200 (1:58.43). Billy Colton was also solid in these events, placing sixth in the 100 (55.71) and fourth in the 200 (1:59.89).
In the breaststroke events, Sean Terry won both events, as he took the 100 in 1:01.02 and the 200 in 2:14.00.
In the butterfly events, Kyle Silbernagel was the top finisher in the 100 event, taking third in 56.02 seconds, while Conor Doherty was third in the 200 (2:05.14).
In diving, Donnie Callara placed second in the three-meter event with a score of 266.05., while Anthony Giavannone was third (211.65).
In relay action, the Fordham men were second in the 400 freestyle relay (3:18.92) and first in the 200 medley relay in 1:39.57.
The Fordham swimming & diving teams will next be in action on Thursday, October 25th, as they are at Marist College, beginning at 7:00 PM.
