Squash Competes at CSA Team Championship

(February 19, 2006) - The Fordham Squash team opened play in the Chaffee Division of the 2006 National Intercollegiate Squash Championship on Friday. The Rams dropped their opening match to Colgate by a score of 7-2.

Phil Bednarczyk and Mike Brigoli each won their match for Fordham's two points. Bednarczyk won at the #1 slot over Colgate's Brooks Happle, 9-2, 9-3, 2-9, and 9-0, while Brigoli took down Jon Lebedoff at the #3 slot, 9-2, 9-2, and 9-3.

All the other matches were straight set wins for Colgate, except at the #6 slot where Fordham Sebastian Cahill lost in four sets to Andy Culp, 9-3, 10-8, 7-9, and 9-3.

Fordham then played Virginia in the loser's bracket match on Sunday, while the Cavaliers won by a final score of 6-3.

Virginia took the first five matches, before Fordham got on the board at the #6 slot, where Cahill defeated Justin Debettencourt, 10-9, 9-3, 3-9, and 9-4. Ben Ehrman took Fordham's second point at the #7 slot, as he beat Dan Latshaw, in straight sets, 9-5, 9-1, and 9-0, while Mike Hennessey got Fordham's final point with a win over Ali Qasluria at the #9 spot (9-4, 9-1, 9-1).
