Bronx, N.Y. – (October 14, 2006) – The Fordham Women's Tennis team won all but one doubles match, as they Rams swept all seven points from NJIT on the Hawthorn/Rooney Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon. The win improves Fordham's record to 2-1 in the fall season, while NJIT falls to 2-2.
Fordham started the match by taking the doubles point with 8-0 wins by the tandems of Dominique Liguori and Ellenoira Featherston at first doubles, as well as by Martina Featherston and Elizabeth Stall at third doubles.
Fordham then preceded to sweep all six singles matches in straight sets. First, Stall blanked Grace Bodgan, 6-0, 6-0 at sixth singles, followed by a 6-1, 6-0 win for Doina Sandor at third singles over Fatima Kasem. Martina Featherston wrapped up her fifth singles match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Chorie Koike, while Lisa Vulin took care of Fannie Azler, 6-0, 6-3, at fourth singles. The Rams then completed the sweep, as Ellenoira Featherston took down Isha Toor, 6-3, 6-2 at second singles, with Liguori winning at first singles, 6-2, 6-4, over Iulia Poci.
The Fordham Women's Tennis team will next be in action on October 19th-22nd, as members of the team compete at the ITA Regionals in Hanover, N.H.
