Bryan Kelly (Jericho, NY/St. Anthony's) was named Atlantic 10 Co-Pitcher of the Week and ECAC Pitcher of the Week for the week ending April 20th it was announced today. Kelly shares the honor with Richmond's Tim Stauffer.
Kelly went 1-0 on the week, throwing a two-hit gem in a 6-0 Atlantic win over Saint Joseph's on Saturday. In that game, Kelly threw a complete-game, striking out a career-high 13. He picked up his first win of the year as well as Fordham's first complete-game shutout since the 2001 season. Kelly didn't allow a runner to reach third and had only one runner reach second, that on a Nick Baldaseri double in the seventh.
Kelly retired eleven batters in a row at one point, striking out four of those, including striking out the side in the fifth inning. Kelly also started a game against Massachusetts on Monday, going five and two-thirds, allowing four hits and striking out seven and not figuring in the decision. In 14 and two-thirds innings of work on the week, Kelly allowed six hits and struck out 20, while walking only four.
On the year, Kelly is 1-3 with two saves and a 3.60 ERA. He has struck out 30 batters in 35.0 innings of work and opponents are hitting just .217 against him.
