(September 18, 2002) - Fordham University has announced that former Iona Prep assistant coach Bob Caputo has joined the Fordham Baseball coaching staff as pitching coach effective immediately. Caputo joins the Rams after nine seasons as an assistant coach at Iona Prep, where he helped the Gaels to a 203-69 record in that time and three Archdioceasan Championships (1998, 1999, 2002). Iona Prep also captured four Bronx, Westchester, Manhattan Championships during his tenure.
A member of the High School Baseball Coaches Association, Caputo has served as the District I All-American Chairman from 1998-2002, and was named District I Assistant Coach of the Year in 2001. He is also a member of the Madison Square Boys Club Hall of Fame. For Caputo, it is his second stint with the Fordham Baseball team. He played baseball at Fordham from 1966-1969 and served as team captain in 1969.
Founded in 1841, Fordham is New York City's Jesuit University. With 22 men's and women's varsity sports teams, the Fordham Rams are members of the NCAA Division I and compete in the Atlantic 10 Conference in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, indoor and outdoor track, women's rowing, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball and in the Patriot League (NCAA I-AA) for football.
