BALA CYNWYD, Pa. — Fordham sophomores Nathan Cukierman and Tyler Christensen delivered one of the program's best performances at the U.S. Intercollegiate Doubles Championships in recent memory, finishing fifth this past weekend at the Cynwyd Club outside Philadelphia.

The Fordham pair put together a strong run through the tournament, culminating in a five-game battle against Drexel in the fifth-place match.

After dropping the opening game 9-15, Cukierman and Christensen responded by taking the next two, 15-7 and 15-11. Drexel answered 15-9 in the fourth, sending the match to a deciding fifth game.

The final game went all the way to 14-14. With the match on the line, Christensen went for a high-risk reverse boast off the serve and executed it, giving Fordham the final point and a dramatic 15-14 victory.

The 3-2 win — 9-15, 15-7, 15-11, 9-15, 15-14 — secured fifth place for Cukierman and Christensen and capped an impressive weekend for the Fordham duo.

With both players only sophomores, the result is also an encouraging sign for Fordham doubles going forward. After producing one of the program's strongest finishes at the championship in recent memory, Cukierman and Christensen will have an opportunity to build on that success over the next two seasons.
