Randall's Island, N.Y./Princeton, N.J. – (April 4, 2025) – Despite being split up, the Fordham men's track & field team had an outstanding Friday at the Metropolitan Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island and at the Sam Howell Invitational in Princeton, N.J.
First on Randall's Island, the Rams won the 2025 Metropolitan Championship with a team score of 136 points, the team's first Metropolitan outdoor title sine 2013.
Leading the way was the men's 4x100 relay, as
Liam Volz,
Matthew Nurse,
Dakota Strain, and
Njam Abdul-Latif won the event with a school record time of 41.32 seconds, breaking the previous mark of 41.44 in 2023.
The Rams won four other events on Friday in the 100- and 400-meter dash, the pole vault, and the 110-meter hurdles. Volz posted a winning time of 10.99 seconds in the 100-meter dash, while
Michael Croke took first in the pole vault, clearing 10' 6".
DaRon Elam then grabbed the top spot in the 110-meter hurdles at 15.23 seconds, with
James Alati in third (16.12),
George Pomer in fourth (16.19), and
Luke Cramer in fifth (16.80).
Sam Freeman and Strain finished 1-2 in the 400-meter dash at 48.45 and 49.47 seconds, respectively.
In the 1,500 meters,
Darren Croke scored third in 3:59.90, while placing eighth in the 800 meters in 1:59.29.
Will Spierdowis also scored in the 800 meters, taking sixth in 1:58.54, and returned to the track in the 4x800 relay, where he,
Anan Bauman,
Matthew Febles, and
Jake Frayler grabbed second in 8:15.49.
A trio of Rams scored in the 5,000 meter run with
Tadael Mihret in second (15:07.43),
Lucas Rohde in fourth (15:17.91), and
Bradford Duchesne in fifth (15:19.07). The final track event that the Rams scored in was the 200-meter dash with Nurse taking third in 21.93 seconds and
Kevin Callaghan in seventh (22.42).
Over in the remaining field events, Fordham scored in the high jump and javelin throw. Elam was third in the high jump, clearing 6' 2 ¾", while Pomer was sixth at 5' 9". Pomer also scored in the javelin throw, taking fourth at 155' 10" with
James Alati in third at 169' 8".
At the Sam Howell Invitational,
Rodolfo Sanchez broke the Rams' second record of the day in the 1,500-meter run. He placed third overall in a school record time of 3:44.99, breaking the previous mark of 3:46.43 by Kevin Fitzgerald in 2012.
Nathan Bezuneh also finished under that time in fifth place at 3:46.19.
In the 800 meters,
Ben Borchers was 13
th overall in 1:52.50 with
John Corrigan in 19
th at 1:53.92. Then in the 3,000-meter steeplechase,
Matthew Mason was ninth in 9:19.70 with
Jack Boerger in 13
th at 9:36.15.
The Fordham track & field team will next be in action on Saturday, April 12
th at the Oscar Moore Invitational in Glassboro, N.J.
