Two Fordham Squash Players Receive Academic Honor

Bronx, N.Y. – (April 22, 2025) – The College Squash Association handed out its Scholar Athlete Awards for the 2024-25 season, which saw two Fordham Rams among the honorees.

Senior Crispin McCarthy (Brooklyn, N.Y.) earned the honor for the second straight season, while senior Bennett Van Liew (Middletown, R.I.) received the honor for the first time.

To be selected, a student-athlete must be a junior or senior with a 3.5 GPA or higher and exemplify the ideals of excellence and balance that college squash seeks to uphold.

McCarthy, a Public Accounting major, just finished his second year with the Rams after transferring from Clark University.  He had an 8-6 record this season with a 1-1 mark at the CSA Team Championship.  Over his two years, McCarthy recorded a 21-13 record.

Van Liew, a Business Administration major, served as a team captain for the Rams this season.  He played all season at the top of the ladder at either the #1 or #2 positions, recording four wins at each spot for eight overall.  Over his career at Fordham, he finished with 27 wins.

The duo helped the Rams to a team record of 17-7 this season.
