Princeton, N.J. – (September 14, 2024) – The nationally ranked Fordham water polo team improved to 4-0 for the first time since the early 1980s, as the #14/12 Rams defeated the #11/14 UC San Diego Tritons, 13-5, at the Princeton Invitational in New Jersey on Saturday morning.
After falling behind 2-0 after the first quarter, the Rams got rolling in the second, outscoring UC San Diego, 6-0 in the quarter.
Andras Toth scored twice with the man-up advantage in the period, while
Luca Provenziani and
Luca Silvestri also scored twice for Fordham.
The teams exchanged goals in the third quarter to make the score, 8-4, before Toth and
Jacopo Parrella scored to close out the period for a 10-4 edge on the scoreboard.
George Papanikolaou then netted a pair of goals in the final quarter to reach 200 career goals scored, while
Balazs Berenyi netted the final marker for the 13-5 final score.
In net,
Thomas Lercari was excellent for Fordham, registering double-digit saves to go with a pair of steals and assists.
The Rams will next be in action on Sunday, September 15
th, as Fordham has its home opener against #15/16 Harvard at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center, beginning at 12:00 PM.
