Stockton, Calif. – (April 11-12, 2026) – Competing in one of the highest profile offseason events and featuring some of the top teams in the United States, the Fordham water polo team won the 2026 Pacific Cup over the weekend, hosted by the University of the Pacific. Here is a recap of the weekend for the Rams:
GAME 1 – Fordham 18, U-18 Team USA 14
Fordham opened the weekend on Saturday with an 18-14 win over the U-18 U.S. National Team.
Leading 7-6 at the half, the Rams outscored Team USA, 11-8, in the second half to secure the win.
Andras Toth led the way with five goals, while
Luca Provenziani netted two goals to go with seven assists and two steals.
Diego Tresa added two goals and two steals with
Alessandro Salipante having two goals and two assists.
GAME 2 – Fordham 16, Stanford 14
In the semifinal, Fordham earned a 16-14 win over Stanford to clinch a spot in the championship final.
The game started Saturday with Fordham leading, 7-5 in the second quarter, but due to thunderstorms and the outdoor venue, the match was suspended and resumed on Sunday.
The Rams built up a four-goal lead by the end of the third quarter, 12-8, and then despite a six-goal fourth quarter by the Cardinal, Fordham was able to net four in the final frame to win by two.
Provenziani and Salipante each scored four times in the game with Tresa adding three tallies. Toth and
Mark Dyck also netted two goals apiece in the match with
Matthew Bonello DuPuis making eight saves in net.
GAME 3 – Fordham 11, San Jose State 6
The championship match saw Fordham take on San Jose State, who defeated UCLA earlier on Sunday.
Leading 6-5 at the half, the Rams scored twice, while holding the Spartans off the scoreboard to extend the lead to 8-5 after three quarters. Fordham outscored San Jose State 3-2 in the final period to win the Pacific Cup by an 11-6 score.
Toth recorded three goals, three steals, and two assists in the championship match with Tresa having two goals and three steals. Provenziani dished out three assists to go with two steals and two blocks with
Reid Thorson adding two goals. In net, Bonello DuPuis notched four saves and three steals.
