Fairfax, Va. – (May 4, 2024) – Battling through less than ideal weather conditions, day one of the 2024 Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track & Field Championship has concluded at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Virginia.
Fordham was one of three teams that did not score on day one, but the Rams did qualify for one Sunday final, as the duo of
Rodolfo Sanchez and
Colin Flood made the 1,500-meter run final. Sanchez qualified second in the event at 3:54.65, while Flood was fifth in 3:55.47.
George Pomer has also set himself up to score on Sunday in the decathlon, as he sits in seventh through five events with 3,021 points. He was first in the high jump event, clearing 6' 1 ½", fifth in the 400 meters (53.79), sixth in the long jump (20' 3 ½"), and seventh in both the 100 meters (12.35) and shot put (32' 3 ½"). He also competed in the individual event for the javelin throw, placing ninth with a distance of 144' 0".
The Rams also posted three season-best performances on Saturday, starting with
Sam Freeman in the 400 meter-dash, as he was 14
th overall in a season-best time of 49.26 seconds. In the 3000-meter steeplechase,
Jack Boerger was 11
th overall in a season-best mark of 9:35.42, while
Steven Zucca bettered his IC4A qualifying time in the 10,000 meters at 30:19.77.
In other Saturday events, Fordham's top performers were
Dakota Strain in the 200 meters (14
th – 22.37),
John Corrigan in the 800 meters (14
th – 1:54.23),
Jabril Carter in the 100 meters (15
th - 11.14), and
Justin Rhee in the long jump (11
th – 21' 1 ½").
The championship concludes on Sunday, starting at 9:00 AM.
