Fairfax, Va. – (May 11, 2024) – The 2024 ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Track & Field Championship opened competition at George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Virginia on Saturday, with the Fordham men's team in 11
th place through 12 events, while the women are 14
th overall through 11 events.
The Fordham men netted 14 points on day one, courtesy of the Rams' duo of
Rodolfo Sanchez and
Colin Flood in the 1,500-meter run. Sanchez took the silver medal, finishing in second place at 3:49.19, while Flood grabbed the bronze medal in third at 3:49.39.
Steven Zucca also ran his final race on Saturday for the Rams, grabbing 14
th in the 5,000-meter run in 14:41.35. In the 400 meters,
Matthew Nurse was 28th in 49.30 seconds with
Sam Freeman in 30th at 49.36.
On the women's side, the Rams totaled 7.5 points on day one, which came from
Leia Ruvo and
Sarah Zahaykevich. Ruvo tied for sixth overall in the high jump, clearing 5' 3 ¾", while Zahaykevich scored fourth in the 5,000-meter run in a season-best time of 17:24.14.
Additional runners on Saturday included
Kyla Hill taking 11
th in the 100-meter dash in 12.17 seconds, with
Mary Kathryn Underwood placing 15
th in a season-best time of 2:13.50. Lastly,
Brenna Sears and
Megan McCann took part in the 1,500 meters, where Sears was 18
th in a season-best time of 4:42.88, followed by McCann in 20
th at 4:46.00.
The ECAC/IC4A Championship concludes on Sunday, as Fordham will compete in five relays and two individual events.
