NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Fordham rowing team turned in a strong showing at the Spring Metropolitan Championships on Saturday afternoon at Glen Island Park, winning both Varsity 8 races and claiming two of the three podium spots in the Varsity 4 Grand Final.
The day opened with the Varsity 4 prelims, during which a pair of Fordham boats clinched spots in the Grand Final. The Varsity 4 won the second heat with a time of 9:34.6; the Second Varsity 4 finished third in the first heat with a time of 8:49.33. The Third Varsity 4 narrowly missed moving on, finishing fourth in its heat with a time 8:54.7
The next women's race was the Varsity 8, which the Rams' shell won in convincing fashion, crossing the finish line in a time of 7:43.8, 7.57 seconds clear of Fairfield in second.
In the Novice 8, Fordham finished second in the three-boat race, clocking in with a time of 9:13.1.
Next up was the Second Varsity 8, which Fordham won with a time of 8:09.4, more than 13 seconds ahead of second-place Fairfield and nearly a minute in front of Bryant in third.
Fordham's final race of the day was the Varsity 4 Grand Final, a race that saw the Rams claim two of the three podium spots. Bryant won in 9:10.0, followed closely by the Fordham 2V4 (+16.33) and V4 (+19.66).
