New Haven, Conn. – (April 20, 2024) – It was a good afternoon for the Fordham track & field team at the Mark Young Invitational on Saturday, hosted by Yale University.  The Fordham men placed first out of six teams, while the women's team was fifth out of six squads.
 
The Fordham men won the team competition with a team score of 109 points, just ahead of Brown with 104.
 
The Rams were sparked by five event wins, beginning with 
Jabril Carter in the 100-meter dash in a season-best time of 11.05 seconds, while 
Liam Volz scored third in 11.26 seconds.  Volz was also one of four Rams to score in the 200-meter dash, as he was second in 22.57 seconds.  Also scoring in the 200 meters were 
Christopher Martinez (3
rd – 22.72), 
Erik Brown (5
th – 23.03), and 
Safo Kirton (6
th – 23.25).
 
Fordham's other four event wins came in the field events.  
George Pomer took first in both the discus throw (104' 3 ½" – season-best) and the javelin throw (168' 8" – season-best), while 
Justin Rhee was first in the triple jump (44' ¾" – season-best) and 
DaRon Elam first in the high jump (6' 1 ¼").  Rhee aso scored in the long jump event, taking fifth at 21' 2 ¾", while Pomer was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.30). 
 
Other top performers were 
Darren Croke being second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:45.25), while Martinez (50.86), Kirton (50.92), and Brown (51.09) were third, fourth, and fifth, respectively in the 400 meters.  The last scoring event for Fordham was the 800 meters with 
Trevor Rinn in third (1:54.25) and 
John Corrigan in fourth (1:55.73).
 
On the women's side, Fordham was fifth in the team standings with 62 points, behind Brown (144), Yale (116), Stony Brook (107), and St. John's (81).
 
The Rams scored in nine events, led by 
Dillyn Green, who placed second in both the 100 meters (12.53) and 200 meters (25.57).
 
In the 400 meters, 
Anna Maria Ivits scored fifth overall in 400 meters at 59.41 seconds, while in the 1,500 meters, 
Megan McCann (4:43.88) and 
Brenna Sears (4:44.49) finished third and fourth, respectively.
 
Fordham received the remainder of it scoring in the field events.  The women's high jump saw four Rams score, led by 
Zoe Arakelian clearing 5' 4 ¼" for second place, while 
Leia Ruvo (3
rd), 
Lexi Fujita (5
th), and 
Anya Alfonsetti-Terry (6
th) all cleared 5' 1".  Ruvo also placed fourth in the long jump (17' 9 ¾" – season-best) and fifth in the triple jump (37' 4 ½" – season-best) with 
Alexandra Manetovic taking sixth in the triple jump at 36' 10 ¼".
 
The final points for the Rams came from 
Sarah Cooley in the discus throw (5
th – 111' 6" – season-best) and 
Tanicha Saintigene in the javelin throw (2
nd – 75' 6 ¼").
 
The Fordham track & field team will next be in action on April 25-27 at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia.
