Box Score FAIRFAX, Va. – The Rams would tally a run early and rip a pair of solo home runs, but it would take late inning heroics on the defensive end to give Fordham University softball a 3-1 win over George Mason Saturday afternoon.
Kate McGuire would tally a pair of RBI's on the day including one on her first homer of the season, with Sydney Wells also leaving the yard Sunday afternoon. In the circle, Devon Miller recorded her eighth complete game of the year, picking up her sixth win of the season, while recording nine strikeouts, a season-high.
Fordham would tally the first two hits of the day, but the game would remain scoreless through the first four innings of the day. Miller would go perfect through the first 3.2 innings of the game, allowing a single hit in the fourth but working out the frame with ease.
With two outs in the fifth, Gianna Sarlo would rip a loud double to left field, and came around to score on the very next at-bat, sliding under a tag at the plate off a Kate McGuire blooper over the second baseman to give her side the lead.
Sydney Wells would drill her A-10 leading ninth home run of the season, to give the Rams a 2-0 lead in the top of the sixth. In the bottom of the inning, Michaela Carter would keep George Mason off the board, robbing a home run with a leaping grab at the wall and bringing it back over the fence for the second out of the frame.
One inning later in their final turn at the dish, McGuire would tally her second RBI of the day with a solo shot to left center to put the Rams up 3-0.
Rallying in the final inning, George Mason would add a run back before loading the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh, but Miller would force a foul fly to right field for the final out, giving the Rams the series win to move to 5-4 in A-10 play this season.
