Softball Splits Doubleheader in Fairfax with 10-1 Win in Game Two

The Rams defeated the Patriots with a 10-run, 12-hit performance to run-rule the Patriots

FAIRFAX, Va. – Heading down to Virginia for a doubleheader Friday afternoon, Fordham University Softball claimed a 10-1 game two win to split their first two games at George Mason this weekend.

Despite recording just three hits through the first six innings, the Rams drew five walks in game one, while Neleh Nogay would tally the only stolen base for the Rams in the early portion of the day, with the Patriots taking the opener 2-0. Game two would see Fordham rattle off 12 hits and draw five more walks as the Rams cruised to a win 10-1 and level the series.

Neleh Nogay would draw four walks on the day including three in four plate appearances in game four, while Sydney Wells led the Rams with three RBI's. One of seven Fordham hitters with an RBI in game two, Nicki Sudall tallied a pair of RBIs, while all nine batters reached base safely at least once to close the afternoon.

Seven Rams would record a run scored with Bailey Enoch, Bella Ayala and Kate McGuire each coming around to score twice in the afternoon, while four different players recorded multiple hits in the latter game of the day.

After stranding a Patriots runner on third to end the second, Fordham would load the bases in the top of the third, but were unable to plate a run. George Mason would open the scoring in the bottom of the frame to take a 1-0 lead, before the Rams threatened once again in the fourth.

With a runner on first, Gianna Sarlo ripped a double to the gap, allowing Allie Clark to round third, but would be tagged out at the plate to keep a one run lead for the home side. Mason would threaten once again in the bottom of the fourth, but Miller worked out of a jam to keep the deficit at one.

Tacking on a second run in the fifth, the Patriots would hold onto a 2-0 lead through six, and see out the win in game one.

Drawing a one out walk to start game two Nogay would move to second before scoring on an RBI single by Nicki Sudall to give the Rams a 1-0 lead. Koratsis would double up the lead early in the fourth with a solo home run, the start of a big inning for the visitors to break open the lead.

Scattering six hits and a walk in the top of the fourth, Fordham would rally for five runs, capitalizing on small ball offense throughout the frame. With five of the six hits being singles, the Rams batted around to keep the conveyor belt moving on the base pads and go ahead 6-0.

The Rams would load the bases in the top of the fifth, walking in a run to make it 8-0 before a two-run double to the center field wall by Wells gave the Rams a double digit lead.

Fordham and George Mason close the weekend series tomorrow afternoon with a single game at 12:00 p.m.
