Bronx, N.Y. – (March 29, 2024) - The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches has announced the men's All-Academic Awards for the 2023 season, honoring 15 Fordham student-athletes with at least a 3.2 GPA or higher. As a team, Fordham ranked in the top ten nationally in team GPA.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete's head coach must be a member of the ACWPC, while the student-athlete must attain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher. Divided into three designations based on cumulative grade point average (GPA), student-athletes can garner Outstanding (4.00-3.71), Superior (3.70-3.41) or Excellent (3.40-3.20) recognition.
In total, 594 total student-athletes were recognized from 51 colleges and universities.
Fordham's
Paul Armingol,
Balazs Berenyi,
Thomas Lercari,
Gabriel Melillo, and
Michael Rahner earned "Outstanding" status, while four Rams,
Gabriel Guinane,
Mark Katsev,
Lucas Nieto Jasny,
Jacopo Parrella, garnered "Superior" status. Six others,
Brendan Cassidy,
Riccardo Di Giuseppe,
Panayiotis Giannas,
Christian Gotterup,
Berk Oral, and
Reid Thorson, earned "Excellent" status.
Further, a total of 40 schools, including Fordham posted Team Honors for achieving team GPAs over 3.0. The Rams ranked sixth in the nation in team GPA at 3.60, trailing only Johns Hopkins (3.76), Salem University (3.71), Harvard (3.68), Caltech (3.67), and MIT (3.65).
