Boston, Mass. – (February 10, 2024) – After seeing a school record fall on Friday for the women, the Fordham men's track & field team took their shot at the record book on Saturday and saw two get broken at the BU Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University at the BU Track & Tennis Center.
The most recent Fordham men's record got broken again to start the day, as
Christian Weddington broke his one-week old record in the 60-meter dash invitational event, as he qualified for the finals in a new record time of 6.89 seconds. He later placed seventh in the finals of the event in 6.92 seconds.
Then in the open edition of the 60-meter dash,
Jabril Carter was 23
rd overall in 7.14 seconds, while
Liam Volz was 34
th in 7.21 seconds.
Those three returned to the track in the 200-meter dash, where Carter tied a season-best at 22.22 seconds, which was 54
th overall, followed by Weddington at 22.40 (71
st) and Volz at 22.43 (74
th).
In the 800 meters,
Trevor Rinn and
Yariv Simhony both posted season-best times as Rinn clocked in at 1:54.03 (100
th) with Simhony recording a time of 1:54.03 (107
th).
Nathan Bezuneh was the next Fordham runner, as he took part in the 1,000 meters, placing 27
th in an IC4A qualifying time of 2:26.20.
Next was the mile run, where
Colin Flood and
Sean Reidy both improved on their IC4A qualifying times on the year. Flood was 111
th overall in a season-best time of 4:06.13, while Reidy was 167
th in 4:09.55.
The day of action concluded with a second Fordham record falling, this time in the 3,000-meter run.
Rodolfo Sanchez posted a school record time of 8:05.24, good for 47
th overall. He broke the previous mark of 8:07.91, set by Ryan Kutch in 2019.
Steven Zucca joined Sanchez in the 3,000 meters as he was 102
nd overall in 8:20.07.
The Rams will next be in action at the 116
th Millrose Games on Sunday afternoon, as Fordham will compete in the collegiate 4x400 relays.
