Bronx, N.Y. – (November 23, 2024) – The Fordham squash team kicked off a busy four-match weekend on Saturday, posting a pair of home victories over Penn Club and Cornell Club at the Lombardi Squash Courts.
With the two wins, Fordham improved to 9-2 on the year.
The Rams opened Saturday with a 6-3 win over Penn Club.
Fordham earned wins at the second through fourth positions, as well as the seventh through ninth slots.
Bennett Van Liew won at second position over Austin Zhuang in four games, 11-8, 9-11, 11-3, and 11-3, followed by
Jack Stanley winning at third position over Jason Lefkort, 7-11, 11-5, 11-3, and 11-4.
Peter Vorbach then won at fourth position in four games over Mark Ma, 9-11, 11-3, 12-10, and 11-5.
The Rams then got wins from
Charlie Friedman (7
th – 11-4, 11-7, 11-7),
Nathan Martinez (8
th – 11-9, 10-12, 11-6, 11-5), and
Joe Walsh (9
th – 11-4, 13-11, 11-6) to close out the team victory.
In match two on Saturday, the Rams earned an 8-1 win over a shorthanded Cornell Club.
Fordham opened with a default win at ninth position, as Cornell only had eight players.
The Rams followed with seven more wins from the second through eighth slots. Stanley won at second position over Caleb Woo, 11-7, 12-10, and 11-7, followed by Vorbach at third position, defeating Nikhil Dhakad in three games (11-9, 11-8, 11-7).
Adam Sakr knocked off Quang Nguyen at the fourth slot, 11-6, 11-6, and 11-8, followed by
Robert Cruikshank taking out Hadi Sumaida at fifth position, 11-6, 11-5, and 11-5. Friedman (6
th – 11-8, 11-6, 11-2), Martinez (7
th – 11-3, 11-2, 11-0) and Walsh (8
th – 11-1, 11-1, 11-1) then each picked up their second win of the day to cap the win.
Fordham is back in action on Sunday, November 24
th, as the Rams hit the road for two matches against Wesleyan (12:00 PM) and Connecticut College (3:30 PM).
