Bronx, N.Y. – (October 20, 2024) – The Fordham squash team opened the 2024-25 season in fine fashion this weekend, posting a 3-0 record in three home matches at the Lombardi Squash Courts.
On Saturday, Fordham made quick work of Columbia's club team with a 9-0 win.
Nicholas Gilman earned a top position win over Shern Lee in four games, 11-4, 11-9, 7-11, and 11-9, while
Bennett Van Liew grabbed a second slot victory over David Mow in three games, 11-6, 11-6, and 11-4.
Jack Stanley and
Adam Sakr added four-game wins at the third and fourth slots, with
Robert Cruikshank,
Charlie Friedman,
Nathan Martinez, and
Joe Walsh all recording three-game sweeps at the fifth through eighth slots, respectively.
Sunday saw two more wins for the Rams, defeating Lehigh, 9-0, and Boston University, 7-2.
Against Lehigh, all nine matches were three-game sweeps for the Rams with Gilman again leading the way with an 11-8, 11-2, and 11-8 win over Brian Fullenbaum at the top position, while
Jack Stanley won at the second slot, 11-4, 11-4, and 11-2 at second position.
Sakr, Cruikshank, Friedman, Martinez,
Gray Kearns, Walsh, and
Crispin McCarthy rounded out the individual wins.
In the Boston University match, Sakr had the top victory at third position over Aryan Lunkad, 11-9 11-9, and 11-2, while Cruikshank defeated Isaac Bunan at the fourth slot, 11-5, 11-9, 3-11, and 12-10.
Friedman, Martinez, Kearns, Walsh and McCarthy would also get wins over the Terriers.
Fordham squash will next be in action on Saturday, October 26
th, with two matches in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. against Vassar (9:00 AM) and Bard (10:30 AM).
