Boston, Mass. – (January 27, 2024) – The Fordham track & field team wrapped up its stay in Boston on Saturday at both the John Thomas Terrier Classic and the River Hawk Invitational
Day two had the men and women flip locations from Friday with the men at the River Hawk Invitational on Saturday and the women at the John Thomas Terrier Classic.
At the River Hawk Invitational,
George Pomer started things off for the Rams, placing 24
th in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.60 seconds and 38
th in the high jump, clearing 5' 8 ¾".
Next was the 60-meter qualifying dash, as well as a standard edition of the 60-meter dash.
Christian Weddington to part in the qualifying event, placing 21
st in a season-best time of 7.07 seconds, while
Liam Volz (7.13) and
Jabril Carter (7.26) placed fifth and 21
st, respectively, in the standard edition. The same trio also competed in the 200-meter dash with Carter leading the way in 25
th at a season-best time of 22.25 seconds, while Volz (22.36) and Weddington (22.59) were 28
th and 43
rd respectively.
In the 400-meter dash,
Sam Freeman was the top performer for Fordham, taking 35
th overall in a season-best time of 50.25 seconds.
Dakota Strain ended up 38
th in the event in 50.51 seconds with
Christopher Martinez in 43
rd at 50.91 seconds.
The Rams then had back-to-back IC4A qualifiers in the final two events, starting in the 500-meter run.
Erik Brown placed tenth overall in an IC4A qualifying time of 1:05.49, followed by
Kevin Callaghan in 17
th (1:06.47) and
Safo Kirton in 23
rd (1:07.56).
Then, the 4x400 relay team of Callaghan, Martinez, Kirton, and Brown finished ninth in an IC4A qualifying time of 3:21.72.
Over at the Terrier Classic, the Fordham women took part in three distance events, starting with the 800-meter run.
Mary Kathryn Underwood was the top Ram, finishing 43
rd in an ECAC qualifying time of 2:13.61.
Megan McCann had the next best time at 2:17.72, good for 73
rd, followed by
Brenna Sears in 98
th (2:21.61),
Molly Mulvaney in 107
th (2:23.63), and
Abigail Llach in 118
th (2:26.26).
Next up was the mile run, where
Meredith Gotzman posted an ECAC qualifying time of 4:59.37, which was 81
st overall, while
Alexandra Thomas was 154
th overall in 5:22.75.
The Rams' final competitor on Saturday was
Caroline McDonagh, who registered a season-best time of 17:44.44 in the 5,000-meter run, which was 41
st overall.
Fordham will next be in action on Friday, February 2
nd, the Rams compete in the annual Metropolitan Championship, which will be at the Ocean Breeze Complex on Staten Island.
