Bronx, N.Y. – (January 20, 2024) – The Fordham squash team bounced back with two victories on Saturday afternoon to even its weekend record at 2-2. Overall, the Rams are 13-6 on the season.
Fordham opened Saturday with a 7-2 win over Northeastern.
Six of the Rams' seven wins came in straight games, beginning with
Nicholas Gilman taking the first slot match from Elias Paul, 11-9, 11-7, and 11-9, while
Bennett Van Liew earned his second slot win via retirement, 11-7, 11-3, 5-1, over Jacob Domber.
Henry Frawley (3
rd – 11-6, 11-4, 11-6),
Jack Stanley (4
th – 11-9, 11-6, 11-7),
Peter Vorbach (5
th – 11-4, 11-4, 11-9), and
Crispin McCarthy (8
th – 11-3, 11-6, 11-9) also had three-game wins against the Huskies.
In the sixth slot,
Robert Cruikshank went through a five-game marathon with Arjan Trehan, coming out on top, 11-8, 17-15, 8-11, 8-11, and 11-8.
In match two, the Rams pulled out a 5-4 win over Penn Club, which came down to the final match.
Early on, Frawley, Stanley, and Vorbach each earned their second win of the day. Frawley defeated Arjun Arasappan in four games at third position, 11-7, 6-11, 11-6, and 11-8, while Stanley topped Austin Zhuang at the fourth slot in four games, 11-7, 12-10, 4-11, and 11-6. Vorbach then beat Arjun Narasimhan at the fifth slot, 8-11, 11-2, 11-9, and 11-7.
Nicholas Choo then picked up a win at the eighth slot over Kunli Zhang, 6-11, 11-7, 11-8, and 11-4, putting Fordham one point away from the team win.
Gilman got that point in the final match of the afternoon, topping Albert Chen at the top slot, 9-11, 11-7, 12-10, and 11-5.
The Rams' busy week at home concludes on Sunday, January 21
st against Boston University at the Lombardi Squash Courts, beginning at 11:00 AM.
