BRONX, N.Y. – After leading the Rams to a 40-37 win at FBS Buffalo on Saturday, Fordham sophomore quarterback
CJ Montes (Pasadena, Calif./Paraclete/New Mexico) was named FedEx Ground FCS National Offensive Player of the Week for Week 2 college football games ending Saturday.
At Buffalo, Montes completed 23 of 36 passes for 309 yards and five touchdowns to lead Fordham to the victory over the Bulls. He connected with grad student wide receiver
MJ Wright on a 15-yard scoring strike with 2:32 remaining in the game in what turned out to be the game-winner. Montes, who had a 181.8 passing efficiency for the game, also rushed 14 times for 40 net yards.
The game was Montes' second straight 300-yard, five-touchdown game.
Over his first three games as a starter at Fordham, Montes has completed 65 of 98 passes for 826 yards and eleven touchdowns. His eleven scoring strikes are the most ever for a Fordham quarterback in his first three starts as a Ram. Montes leads the NCAA FCS in passing yards and passing touchdowns and is sixth in passing yards/game (275.3) and seventh in total offense (293.3/ yards/game).
After a week off, the Rams return to action on Saturday, September 23, as they host Stonehill College at Moglia Stadium at Jack Coffey Field at 1:00 p.m.
