Bronx, N.Y. – Fordham softball's
Julia Martine and
Sydney Wells were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team, it was announced on Tuesday afternoon. The duo are the first Rams to earn the awards since
Rachel Hubertus and
Brianna Pinto in 2021.
Martine had a 3.57 GPA this past year, earning her Master's degree in Professional Taxation. Wells had a 3.55 GPA in Engineering Physics.
Martine concluded a five-year stint in the Bronx by slashing .241/.291/.345 as a graduate student this season, finishing second on the team in steals (10), third in extra-base hits (nine), and fourth in runs (17) and RBIs (16). The Hamilton, N.J. native is currently 10
th all-time in program history with 35 steals and is one of a handful of Rams to reach the 200-games played plateau, appearing in 207 and starting 198.
Wells enjoyed a terrific sophomore campaign that took off once the schedule turned to conference play. The Selah, Wash. native slashed .252/.302/.520 for the year, leading the way in slugging, home runs (eight), RBIs (36), and total bases (64), but turned things up a notch after mid-March with a .300/.338/.667 slash line with five home runs, 11 total extra-base hits, and 26 RBIs.
The CSC, formerly known as CoSIDA, revamped its Academic All-District awards to be given out to those eligible – starters or heavy rotation players with a 3.5 or better GPA. Voting for Academic All-America runs through next week.
