Softball Closes Homestand with 4-1 Win Over Hofstra

The Rams scored three runs in the sixth to take the victory

BRONX, N.Y. --The Fordham University Softball team won a close one on Wednesday, edging the Hofstra Pride by the score of 4-1.

Freshman Sydney May picked up her second victory out of the bullpen for Fordham (14-17, 6-6), as the right-hander went 2.1 innings, giving up one run on three hits in relief. Junior Olivia Simcoe also made an impact in the circle for the Rams, starting the ballgame and throwing 4.2 scoreless innings while allowing three hits, with no walks and four strikeouts.

Offensively, the Rams were paced by senior Eva Koratsis, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a double and an RBI. Sophomore Ava Vandernoth furnished a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-1 with two RBIs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Rams got on the scoreboard first, starting in the fifth inning. Freshman Sadira Forcucci worked her way around the bases and came across to score the lone run of the inning for Fordham to get them on the board.

The Pride failed to push any runs across before the Rams offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. A sac fly by Koratsis would score the eventual winning run as Fordham scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a two-run single off the bat of Vandernoth, which brought the score to 4-0 in favor of the Rams. Hofstra put one run on the scoreboard in the seventh, and brought the tying run to the plate twice, but Fordham still held on for the 4-1 win.

GAME NOTES
