Softball Takes Series Opener Over George Washington

The Rams rallied to take the lead before Sydney May closed the game in the seventh

BRONX, N.Y. - Four Fordham players collected multiple hits Saturday to help lead Fordham University Softball past George Washington 5-4 at Bahoshy Field.

Junior Olivia Simcoe started in the circle and picked up her fifth win of the season for Fordham (12-16, 5-5). The right-hander went six innings, giving up four runs, all of them earned, on four hits, allowing one walk and striking out five.

Sydney May came in out of the bullpen for the final three outs of the day, earning a save as she held the tying run from scoring in the seventh.

HOW IT HAPPENED

George Washington struck first Saturday as they took the lead on a two-run homer in the third inning. The Rams then held the Revolutionaries scoreless before getting on the board themselves in the very next inning.

Passing the baton for four hits including three doubles in the fourth inning, the Rams pushed three runs across, with Sadira Forcucci, Eva Koratsis, and Morgan Volgraf each tallying an RBI double in the frame.

Fordham brought two more runs home in the very next inning on a two-run double off the bat of freshman Sadira Forcucci in the fourth that brought home senior Neleh Nogay and freshman Aubrey Zvovushe-Ramos, which brought the score to 5-2 in favor of the Rams.

George Washington put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, in the sixth, before May came on in relief for her second save of the season, as Fordham held on for the 5-4 win.
