Stony Brook, N.Y. – (March 18, 2023) – The Fordham track & field team started its outdoor season on Saturday at the Stony Brook Snowflake Classic, where the Rams took home five individual event wins.
In the women's events,
Kathryn Kelly won the long jump event with a mark of 19' 5 ½", while grabbing second in the 200-meter dash in 25.31 seconds.
Leia Ruvo and
Skylar Harris were second (17' 10 ½") and third (16' 1 ¾") respectively in the long jump.
Along with Kelly in the sprints,
Ileana Chlorou was third in the 100 meters (13.06) and eighth in the 200 meters (27.26).
Madeleine Ryan and
Tanicha Saintigene also won events on Saturday. Ryan took first in the 3,000-meter run in 10:51.01, just ahead of teammate
Marin Bogulski, who was second in 10:53.68. Saintigene was first in the women's shotput event with a distance of 37' 1 ¼", while
Casey Metzler was second at 32' 4 ¾".
Other top performers were
Michele Daye (6
th – 1:04.49) and
Ruby Avila (7
th – 1:05.68) in the 400 meters,
Taylor Mascetta (4
th – 2:26.54) and
Carolyn Cardell (5
th – 2:32.36) in the 800 meters,
Helen Connolly (2
nd – 4:49.63) and
Mary Kathryn Underwood (3
rd – 4:50.95) in the 1,500 meters,
Nicole Lytle (2
nd – 15.77) in the 100-meter hurdles,
Kylie Ritz (2
nd – 1:13.85) in the 400-meter hurdles, and
Zoe Arakelian (T-2
nd – 4' 11") in the high jump.
On the men's side,
Liam Volz won both the 100-meter (11.29) and 200-meter (23.72) events, while
Isaiah James grabbed second in the 400-meter dash in 52.82 seconds.
Thomas Lewis was third in the 800-meter run at 2:08.41 with
Trevor Rinn (4:14.58) and
Ryan Fahey (4:23.26) taking third and fourth, respectively, in the 1,500-meter run.
In the 3,000 meters,
Zalen Nelson was the top Ram in third place at 8:46.89 with
George Pomer finishing third in the 110-meter hurdles (17.29), second in the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.74), and third in the long jump (19' 1 ¼").
The Rams are next in action on Saturday, March 25
th, as they take part in the Rider 5-Way Invitational, held at the Michael P. Brady Track & Field Complex in Lawrenceville, N.J.
