Providence, R.I. – For the second straight day the Fordham women's tennis squad came oh-so-close to knocking off a nationally ranked team, falling 4-3 to #42 Brown University at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
"Unbelievable match against another tough opponent," said head coach
Michael Sowter. "Every time we step on the court we are getting better and tonight we were one point away from beating #42 in the country. I'm so incredibly proud of the team for battling back into the match and giving us an opportunity to win. Even though we didn't get the victory, we are playing at a level unseen at Fordham and I'm excited for our trip to California."
The Rams opened play by dropping the doubles point, losing both completed doubles matches, but came back to win three of the first five completed singles matches.
It all came down to fifth singles where Fordham's
Carlota Casasampere Escoda dropped the first set to Brown's Oliva Mariotta, 6-4, but came back to win the second, 6-2, to force a third set. That set came down to the wire with Mariotta wining the tiebreaker 8-6 for the win.
