Kingston, R.I. – (February 26, 2023) – The 2023 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championship has come to a close at URI's Mackal Fieldhouse in Kingston, Rhode Island.
In the men's championship, host Rhode Island took the team title with 175 points, followed by George Mason (132.5), Davidson (101), VCU (99.5), Saint Louis (68.5), Loyola Chicago (64), Saint Joseph's (58), La Salle (30), Fordham (26.5), Massachusetts (20), and St. Bonaventure (0).
The Rams scored in eight events on day two of the championship, beginning with
Rodolfo Sanchez taking fifth in the mile run in 4:09.98. He finished ahead of fellow teammates
Daniel Asher (10
th – 4:20.13) and
Nolan Chiles (13
th – 4:23.7).
Next was the finals of the 500-meter run, where
Kevin Callaghan placed sixth in a time of 1:06.51.
Zalen Nelson was the next finalist in the 1,000-meter run, as he placed fifth overall in 2:29.72, while in the 200-meter dash finals,
Christian Weddington scored seventh in 22.87 seconds.
In the 3,000-meter run,
Steven Zucca scored for the second time in the championship, as he finished eighth in 8:20.31, ahead of teammate
Colin Flood, who was 19
th in 8:39.89.
Over in the field events,
George Pomer wrapped up his competition in the heptathlon, placing seventh in the event with 3,841 points. He was seventh in the 60-meter hurdles (9.44), seventh in the pole vault (9' 6 ¼"), and second in the 1,000 meters (2:52.74).
Justin Rhee was the final individual performer for the Rams, as he took 12
th in the triple jump event with a distance of 45' ½".
The championship concluded with the 4x800 and 4x400 relay events. In the 4x800 relay, Fordham's group of
Ben Borchers,
Rodolfo Sanchez,
Justin Lombardi, and
Zalen Nelson scored seventh in 7:47.60, while in the 4x400 relay team of Callaghan,
Erik Brown,
Matthew Nurse, and
Yariv Simhony finished fifth in 3:23.21.
Fordham will conclude the indoor season next weekend at the ECAC/IC4A Championship, March 4-5, in Boston.
