Middletown, Conn. – (February 24, 2023) – The Fordham squash team began their stay at CSA Team Championships on Friday, taking part in the Conroy Cup Division.
Fordham kicked things off with an opening round win over Vassar, 7-2, to advance to the quarterfinals of the Conroy Cup.
Nicholas Gilman had the top slot win over Sameer Mustafa in three games, 11-7, 11-5, and 11-9.
Henry Frawley,
Bennett Van Liew, and
Jack Stanley followed with wins at the second through fourth positions. Frawley defeated Luke Chen in four games at the second slot, 11-9, 11-5, 5-11, and 11-3, while Van Liew topped Patrick Looby in four games at the #3 slot, 11-5, 9-11, 11-5, and 11-3. Stanley also earned a four-game win at the fourth slot over Razaan Lalji, 11-5, 9-11, 11-5, and 11-8.
Robert Cruikshank,
Nicholas Choo, and
Caleb Schumacher closed out the team win with victories at the sixth through eighth slots, respectively. Cruikshank knocked off Kyle Benson in three games (#6 – 11-4, 11-8, 11-7), as did Choo over Josh Finkelstein (#7 – 11-3, 11-2, 11-6). Schumacher also won in three games over Will Knauss at the eight slot (11-0, 11-6, 11-4).
In the quarterfinals, the Rams played the top seed in the Conroy Division, Bowdoin, falling by a 9-0 score.
Eight of the nine matches were three-game sweeps for Bowdoin with the lone non-sweep coming at the third slot, where Van Liew fell in four games to Henry Somerby, 11-2, 11-4, 811, and 11-3.
Fordham now slides into the first consolation bracket on Saturday, and will face Haverford at 4:00 PM at Wesleyan in Middletown, Connecticut.
